L Plantarum Best Probiotic For Inflammation

Identification And Characterization Of L Plantarum Strains

Probiotics: Are They Really Necessary? | Talking Point | Diet

The fermented food is commonly known for the presence of Lactobacillus strains. Besides protecting the nutritional quality, Lactobacillus strains were used for protecting the fermented food from various fungal pathogens. Many beneficial species of Lactobacillus strains were derived from the fermented food and other silage samples. The routine microbiological identification methods and 16S rRNA gene amplification followed by sequencing identified the strain as L. plantarum . The physiological and biochemical identification study showed that the strain was catalase negative, Gram positive . This novel strain was tolerant to a different range of salts especially NaCl and bile salts, pH of 4.08.0, temperatures of 2845 °C, and with optimum cell growth at a temperature of 37 °C and pH 7.0 respectively. Similar to the literature the identified strain survived various biological barriers such as low pH, lytic enzymes, and bile salts in the upper GI tract . Carbohydrate assimilation test concluded that the strain was able to utilize a wide range of sugars especially monosaccharides and disaccharides respectively. Moreover, the production of extracellular enzymes such as amylase and protease was to its advantage. The above mentioned results were commonly observed in L. plantarum strains.

Application Of Toothpastes To Monocytes

The probiotic toothpastes were weighed and the appropriate doses diluted in cell culture media. The mixture of toothpaste in media was then placed in a 3.0 µm transwell insert , added to the 24-well plates containing monocytes, and stirred with the medium in the well. The cells were then incubated with the toothpaste for 30 min, after which the inserts were removed and LPS was added to the cells to stimulate the immune response. After 24 h, supernatants were harvested, centrifuged, and inflammatory parameters assessed.

What To Look For When Buying Probiotics

If you think supplementing with a probiotic is right for you, dietitian Alex shares her tips on what you should know and look for when choosing the best probiotic supplement for your concerns.

Check expiration dates, make sure the bacteria is live, and look for CFUs in the billions. Anything less isnt as potent. A good brand specifies the amount of live organisms, and lists the exact strains used in their formula.

The label should also specify that the living microbes are viable through end of shelf life or best-by date rather than at time of manufacture to ensure the bacteria are still live when you take them and able to reach your colon. Quality trumps everything: Bargain supplements typically arent of good quality. Depending on strands, a good probiotic can cost anywhere from $25-$60.

Alex recommends one of the curated probiotic blends from HUM Nutrition:

  • Gut Instinct supports the comprehensive health of your body and digestion with ten strains of probiotics and 25 billion organisms in each capsule.
  • Skin Squad combines 40 billion organisms from nine different strains, all specifically chosen to support skin health.
  • Private Party zeroes in on vaginal health with three probiotic strains to support a healthy vaginal pH and cranberry extract to help support urinary tract health.

Criteria used to select strains for screening were that they had not been genetically modified, had some prior documented anti-inflammatory activity , and, preferably, had been isolated from the oral cavity strains not isolated from the oral cavity were from food sources . Strains included were from the bacterial genera Bacillus, Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus and Streptococcus. Screening of strains for anti-inflammatory effects was performed sequentially in primary human monocytes and then, if some effects were shown, in primary human gingival fibroblasts, as described in the following text.

L. acidophilus is one of the most widely recognized probiotics. Consumption of it has been steady since the 1920s when doctors would recommend acidophilus milk to treat constipation and diarrhea.

These microbes survive stomach passage and are able to colonize in the intestine. Theres good evidence looking at Acidophilus NCFM in treating vaginal infections. Other studies show that it has been demonstrated in humans to reduce problems associated with lactose intolerance and even decrease the risk of colon cancer .

However, its not just digestive woes that probiotics can help address. A clinical case series followed 300 patients who took a probiotic mixture of L. acidophilus and L. bulgaricus. They documented that 80% of acne patients had some degree of clinical improvement, particularly effective in inflammatory acne. Later, an Italian study involving 40 patients found L. acidophilus and B. bifidum supplementation produced better clinical outcomes in acne as well as better tolerance and compliance with antibiotics .

In 2015, more than a third of US adults and 1520% of children and adolescents had been diagnosed as obese. By 2030, this number is expected to rise to almost 50 percent !

Similar to other metabolic disorders, obesityhas been linked to a higher risk of systemic, chronic inflammation the silentkiller that increases the risk of many adverse health conditions.

Promisingly, strains of L. plantarum have been shown to have anti-obesity properties in laboratory experiments . Interestingly, genetic profiles of gut microbiota known as microbiomes that are specifically associated with obesity have been identified, which are often found to be prevalent in obese individuals .

Promote A Healthy Gut Flora

ARE PROBIOTICS WORTH IT FOR YOUR SKIN? / DERMATOLOGIST @Dr Dray

Not all probiotics effectively promote a healthy gut flora. L. plantarum is a special strain because it increases gut flora diversity and reduces bad bacteria. Gut flora diversity is important because when you have more diverse gut flora, your gut flora becomes more resistant to infections. Not only will your gut bacteria become more robust, but it also prevents pathogens from invading your gut flora.

L Plantarum Benefits For Gut Health

Since probiotics were first recognized for theirrole in improving gut health, this is the minimum requirement for anyprobiotic to be deemed effective and beneficial.

L. plantarum has been demonstrated in multiple animal studies to go far beyond this low bar and helps relieve the symptoms of painful gut conditions such as inflammatory bowel diseases , including Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis.

Promisingly, L. plantarum consumed in drinking water led to improvements in the large intestine in a laboratory mouse model of IBD, along with a significant reduction in inflammation levels .

Similarly, consumption of L. plantarum was seen to lower levels of pro-inflammatory immune signaling molecules known as cytokines in mice, along with reducing the severity of induced colitis .

In another study, treatment with L. plantarum was seen to reduce damage to the colon in a rat model of ulcerative colitis, while also lowering the expression of various pro-inflammatory immune molecules .

Effect Of L Plantarum L15 Supplementation On Colon Injury Prevention

To observe the effect of L. plantarum L15 supplementation on histopathological changes of UC mice, the HE staining of colonic tissue was performed. As presented in Figures 6A,B, the colon epithelial cells of mice in the control group were arranged in order, and there were abundant goblet cells without inflammatory cell infiltration. In the DSS group, colon edema was severe, epithelial structure was damaged, most of goblet cells were absent, and a noticeably high number of inflammatory cells infiltration. Compared to the DSS group, high dose of L. plantarum L15 supplementation attenuated the extent and severity of lesions, improved the epithelium architecture and reduced inflammatory cell infiltration. As shown in Figure 6C, the score value of the DSS group was significantly higher than that of the control group. In contrast, the score value of the HD group was lower than that of the DSS group. These results implied that high dose of L. plantarum L15 can alleviate and repair injuries caused in colon tissues by DSS induction.

As you can see, most of the probiotics in Biotics 8 are from the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium families of bacteria. Species from these families rank among the best for enhancing digestion and overall gut health.

We are not even going to try and list all the things each of the included probiotics can do. This is a list of the best probiotic supplements for men. We don’t want to turn it into a textbook so we are only going to highlight the benefits that are particularly useful to men.

Body Ecologys Cultured Vegetables Offer More Folate And Other Big L Plantarum Benefits

Lactobacillus plantarum is the only probiotic from the Lactobacillus family that can make natural folate. All other popular Lactobacillus probiotics likeL. acidophilus cannot make folate.10 Fortunately, L. plantarum is a team player. One study published in 2013 found that a probiotic supplement containing L. plantarum can boost the numbers of beneficial Bifidobacteria in the gut while decreasing the numbers of harmful microorganisms.11

More than a team player, Donna considers L. plantarum the captain of the team, L. plantarum is one of those super microorganisms in the microbiome in your gut that tells the other bacteria what to do. If you think about it, the bacteria need leaders, and certain bacteria are the leaders. Like Alexander the Great, L. plantarum is one of those Alexander Organisms that makes big, healthy changes in the gut, and all the other bacteria follow.

Theres a buzz about Body Ecology. Hear what members of our tribe have to say.

While L. plantarum does a lot of good for the body, researchers in Brazil found in 2014 that it does not like to hang around in the digestive tract. This is true even when L. plantarum is consumed for long periods of time.12

In other words, L. plantarum is more like a visitor to your inner ecosystem than a resident.

Folic Acid Versus Folate: Whats The Difference

HK L-137: The Heat-Killed Probiotic with Powerful Immune Effects

Most vitamins and fortified foods contain folic acid, the synthetic version of folate. Even though folic acid functions similar to folate in the body, supplementing with synthetic folate is not entirely risk free. For example, some research shows that synthetic folic acid may encourage the growth of cancer cells once they have already developed into a tumor.6 Other researchers are concerned that synthetic folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency, leaving it undiagnosed and untreated.7

Finally, synthetic folic acid does not easily break down in the body. This means that most of us if we have eaten fortified foods or have supplemented with folic acid are carrying around high levels of unused folic acid in our blood. Even newly delivered babies have unused folic acid in their umbilical cord blood.8

Knowledge is power. Heres a full list of our Body Ecology courses.

This is a concern because unused folic acid may be related to brain deterioration in the elderly.9

The good news is that many foods are rich in natural folate. This includes:

  • Brussels sprouts

Probiotic Strains That Reduce Inflammation

Did you know that there are many probiotic strains that reduce inflammation? Inflammation is a necessary part of the bodys immune response but the wrong kind of inflammation can cause all sorts of health issues that have uncomfortable side effects. Some inflammation is good and normal but when chronic inflammation sets in, it puts the body in a constant state of alert. Luckily, probiotics can help. Below, youll learn more and inflammation and youll find the probiotic strains that reduce inflammation.

Side Effects And Safety Concerns

Some individuals may experience side effects such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea.

If you have a weak or impaired immune system , a condition resulting in intestinal damage, an artificial heart valve, heart valve disorder, central venous catheter, or are at risk of D-lactate toxicity, you shouldn’t take Lactobacillus plantarum without consulting your healthcare provider.

Like any type of natural remedy or dietary supplement, Lactobacillus plantarum should not be used as a substitute for standard care in the treatment of a chronic health problem.

Effect Of L Plantarum L15 Supplementation On The Expression Of Nf

The effects of L. plantarum L15 supplementation on the colonic TLR4 and MyD88 expression genes at mRNA level are shown in Figure 9A. Compared with the control group, TLR4, and MyD88 genes in the DSS group were significantly up-regulated, while L. plantarum L15 administration significantly down-regulated their expression levels , when compared with the DSS group. Expression of genes involved in NF-B signaling pathway in the colonic tissue at protein level determined by western-blot are shown in Figure 9B. DSS induction resulted in a significant increase in the expression of p-p65 and p-IB factors as compared to the control group . Interestingly, L. plantarum L15 supplementation significantly reduced the expression of p-p65 and p-IB . These results indicated that L. plantarum L15 supplementation could attenuate chemical-induced colitis by DSS through inhibiting the TLR4-MyD88-NF-B signaling pathways.
