Probiotic Supplements With Lactobacillus And Bifidobacterium

And Just One More Extra Bifidobacterium Probiotic

Probiotics Bifidobacterium Breve & Lactobacillus Rhamnosus Helps Asthma | Inflammation, T cell

All three of the previous probiotics have contained only bifidobacteria species without the traditional Lactobacillus strains. But as long as we are talking about bifidobacteria probiotics, I want to add one more product to this article.

The probiotic is Renew Lifes Ultimate Flora. The reason I didnt include it in the top 3 bifidobacteria probiotics is that this probiotic also contains lactobacillus bacteria, and a lot of it: 20 billion colony forming units in a capsule. BUT, it has even more bifidobacteria in it: 30 billion CFUs per capsule.

I have often used Ultimate Flora myself with good results and Ive seen a lot of people having reported positive experiences about it all around the interwebs. And I dont know of any other probiotic to have this high amount of bifidobacteria in it.

  • 50 billion CFUs per capsule
  • 3 bifidobacterium strains and 7 lactobacillus strains
  • Refrigeration recommended

How The Best Probiotics Were Rated

Zenwise Labs Probiotic Digestive Supplement

All probiotic companies boast of their products having the same beneficial properties, but the following factors were considered when ranking these probiotics.

Number of CFUs: Some probiotics contained only 1 billion CFUs, while others had up to 50 billion CFUs. CFUs do not determine the quality of a probiotic. Still, from their use, the higher the number of CFUs a probiotic has, the longer its shelf life, quality, and effectiveness.

Quality of Strains: Strain quality differs from one probiotic to another as some probiotics use one bacterial strain. In contrast, others use more than one to increase the efficiency of the strains on the products. Some brands use cheaper bacterial strains, which lower the probiotic quality as good quality probiotics are always more expensive.

Diversity of strains: Some probiotics use at most two strains that do not lower the product’s quality, but different strains have different properties. Incorporating more strains in a probiotic will improve its quality and uses. Some strains may have specific functions, while others have generalized functions, which may work better when the strains are put together.

Transparency & Reputation: More probiotic companies are formulated daily, and some of these companies praise their products for earning quick money. They do this for their business growth and not to promote good health. We considered the reputation of these companies and their reputations to determine which probiotics were legit.

Probiotics For Overall Health

When purchasing any probiotic for overall health, a person should be aware that there is little research into the health benefits of probiotics and may find it difficult to determine their effectiveness.

While it is common for some people to take probiotic supplements to promote their overall health, and suggested by many healthcare providers for various conditions, it is important to understand that not all probiotics are effective or safe for everyone . It is much more important for an individual to support their overall health by focusing on diet and lifestyle as a whole rather than on taking one specific supplement.

The health benefits of probiotics are strain-specific, and probiotics for overall health often contain a lot of live microorganisms rather than single strains. This makes it difficult for a person to determine whether research supports the health benefits that the manufacturers claim.

Studies In The Gnotobiotic Pig Animal Model

In humans and conventional animals, the complex microbiome, diverse diets and various underlying conditions complicate understanding of the interactions among commensals, pathogens and the immune system. Therefore, Gn animals provide the additional benefit of modelling interactions exclusively between the target organisms and the host immune system without confounding factors including commensal microbiota, maternal Abs, other pathogens.

Dual colonization of LGG and Bb12 probiotics had significant effects on human RVA vaccine induced B and T cell responses. B cell responses, including activation of intestinal B cells and RV specific IgA Ab titers were enhanced in vaccinated, probiotic colonized piglets compared to uncolonized, vaccinated piglets post-virulent human RVA challenge . The latter effect coincided with increased TLR9 expression , and according to the previous reports, TLR9 and BAFF up-regulation may be associated with increased IgA levels , and may represent synergistic sensing of probiotics and RV by innate immune cells leading to increased IgA levels. Further, T cell responses, specifically ileal T regulatory cells, and systemic IFNγ producing T cell responses, were increased in probiotic colonized and vaccinated compared to uncolonized vaccinated piglets . Importantly, the probiotic induced immunomodulatory effects on adaptive immune responses coincided with decreased diarrhea severity and reduced fecal virus shedding.

What Lies Ahead For Probiotics In Digestive Diseases

Inspired investigators and technical advances in genomics are facilitating in-depth scientific investigation of the human microbiome and the functional capacities of probiotics. These advances are sure to bring paradigmatic changes to our fundamental understanding of how microbiota influence health and how they can be manipulated to combat disease and improve quality of life. Future indications and therapeutic directions for probiotics may include conditions as diverse as mood disorders, obesity, autism and diabetes. Recent clinical trials and translational studies suggest that lactobacillus probiotics may offer epithelial cytoprotection to limit symptoms of radiation enteritis, a dose limiting side effect for patients receiving abdominal radiotherapy for malignancy., , Promise is held for confirmative testing of helminth-based therapy and turbo-probiotics designed to secrete human cytokines. Gene based bacterial profiling studies from disease affected humans have identified what may be novel probiotics such as Faecalibacterium prausnitizii and Clostridium species IV and XIVa. Finally, the identification, purification and repackaging of probiotic-derived soluble factors possessing proven capacity to modify biologic function may allow us to harness the power of probiotics while averting the potential risks associated with live bacteria. Some suggest that as these advances progress to the clinic we will shift from the term probiotic into the new world of pharmabiotics.

Probiotics And Ibs In

Lactobacillus & Bifidobacterium Multi Probiotic

IBS affects our society in huge numbers – up to 20% of the UK population are sufferers, with women twice as likely to be affected as men. The most used diagnostic method for IBS is the Rome criteria, which classifies IBS into these subtypes:

IBS-D IBS-C IBS-A or IBS-M & IBS-U .

Although there is no clearly defined cause of IBS, many sufferers often report that symptoms are exacerbated by dietary factors such as wheat and dairy products, high FODMAPs foods, and lifestyle factors such as high-stress levels, as well as an imbalance in good and bad bacteria in the gut. It can be a good idea to keep a food and symptom diary for a few weeks to see if you have any dietary triggers.

Recent research may have found a link between IBS-D symptoms and a pathogenic bacterium called Brachyspira. This bacterium hides inside intestinal cells and is unaffected by antibiotic treatment. If more studies confirm this link between IBS symptoms and Brachyspira, researchers believe probiotics may become the future treatment22.

Several studies have documented the link between gut microflora and IBS symptomsSufferers often have lower levels of beneficial gut bacteria e.g. Bifidobacterium species, and increased levels of gut pathogens e.g. Clostridium species. We have seen above how specific probiotics may support the reduction of specific IBS symptoms. Also supplementing with a high-quality probiotic may help to reduce IBS symptoms in the following ways:

What Are The Different Types Of Probiotics

Probiotic supplements, foods, and beverages contain bacteria and/or yeasts. Up until the 1960s, the only gut microflora that they were able to identify were clostridia, lactobacilli, enterococci, and E. coli. Since then, innovative techniques have discovered many more bacteria.

There are several different kinds of probiotics, and their health benefits are determined by the job that they do in the gut. They must be identified by their genus, species, and probiotic strain level. Here is a list of probiotics and their possible health benefits.

1. Lactobacillus

There are more than 50 species of lactobacilli. They are naturally found in the digestive, urinary, and genital systems. Foods that are fermented, like yogurt, and dietary supplements also contain these bacteria. Lactobacillus has been used for treating and preventing a wide variety of diseases and conditions.

Some of the lactobacilli found in foods and supplements are Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. acidophilus DDS-1, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Lactobacillus plantarium, Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus johnsonii, and Lactobacillus gasseri.

What Foods Contain Probiotics

The discovery of the benefits of probiotics began with sour milk. Today we have many other options to get various bacteria from our foods, although it’s not as simple as just adding them to the food. For there to be health benefits, the microorganism has to be able to survive the passage through the gastrointestinal tract, survive the food manufacturing process, and grow and survive during the ripening or storage period. Also, the bacteria must not negatively affect product quality and be included on the Generally Recognized as Safe list.

Most bacteria are included through the fermentation process. Fermentation helps extend the shelf life of perishable foods. It is a slow decomposition process of organic substances induced by microorganisms or enzymes that essentially convert carbohydrates to alcohols or organic acids. The lactic acid supplies the bacteria that then add the health benefits to the food. You can purchase foods that are fermented or ferment them yourself.

  • Kefir: This could be the most ideal probiotic dairy product because it contains both bacteria and yeast working together to provide the numerous health benefits. In a recent eight-week study, people with diabetes were given kefir milk containing Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and bifidobacteria vs. conventional fermented milk. The hemoglobin A1C levels were significantly lower in the group consuming the kefir.

For Ibs And Other Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders: Bifidobacteria Maybe

What is Lactobacillus Acidophilus – How Lactobacillus Acidophilus is Important for Your Body?

A functional gastrointestinal disorder is a problem where theres no obvious physical cause of symptoms, but the symptoms are still there. Youre not constipated or bloated or having diarrhea because you have a virus or parasite theres nothing physically wrong with your digestive systembut the problem wont go away!

A recent review and meta-analysis looked at all the data for probiotics in IBS and chronic idiopathic constipation . The researchers found:

  • Theres evidence that probiotics as a group are helpful.
  • Theres some evidence that bifidobacteria may be particularly helpful.
  • We need more high-powered studies to really learn about the differences between the types of probiotics.

Bifidobacteria include anything labeled as B. _______ . If youre trying to manage IBS or constipation, look for that on the probiotic bottle.
