When To Take Align Probiotic

What Does The Research Say

Understanding the Power of Align Probiotics | The Balancing Act

Probiotic doses are listed as colony forming units , which means the number of live strains in each dose.

Different brands will have different suggested doses and uses, so its important to understand the information listed.

Recent research found that the type of microbe strain, health condition, product formula, dose, and the quality of the product are all important for effectiveness.

The condition or symptom youre trying to treat can affect how the probiotic works and when youll see results. If youre taking a probiotic for general gut or immune health, youll need to take it awhile to see results.

On the other hand, if youre taking a probiotic for relief from diarrhea, you may see faster results.

For example, has shown that, when used in combination with rehydration therapy, treatment with probiotics can reduce the duration and frequency of infectious diarrhea in as little as 2 days.

Another study demonstrated that people who consumed a high-dose probiotic drink containing Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus fermentium for 12 weeks experienced significantly less upper respiratory infections and flu-like symptoms compared to a placebo group.

Plus, it was shown that the probiotic drink boosted the immune system of the participants by increasing levels of antibodies including sIgA in the gut after 12 weeks.

Depending on what youre taking probiotics for, you may see symptom improvements anywhere between a few days to a few months.

Why Not To Take Probiotics With A Heavy Meal

We tend to be of the thought that taking probiotics with a light meal may help reduce their exposure to harsh stomach acid and assist their passage into the small and large intestines. We do not suggest taking probiotics with heavy meals as they take longer to digest and may delay the movement of the probiotic bacteria into the lower portion of your G.I. tract.

The acidic environment of the stomach can also kill probiotics gained from food, which can reduce the number of good bacteria available to inhabit the intestinal tract and small colonies of bacteria produce relatively weak health benefits as compared with large, robust colonies.

Unfortunately, there has been very little research comparing the benefits of taking probiotics with or without meals, or at different times of day. The paucity of studies could be because people have traditionally consumed probiotics during meals, through foods like yogurt and kefir. We hope to see more research into this area in the near future so we can better answer questions like these.

When Should I Take Probiotics

The ideal time to take probiotics is right before bed because “the gut is pretty inactive at night. If you think about it, you dont usually wake up in the middle of the night to poop, says Patricia Raymond, MD, a board-certified doctor in both gastroenterology and internal medicine. If you ingest a probiotic at night when your bowel isnt moving, theres a better chance that it will hang around, divide, and potentially get integrated into your gut.

What Is The Best Time To Take Probiotics

Hannah Kleinfeld

Probiotics are most effective when they have been taken on an empty stomach to make sure the good bacteria makes it to the gut as quickly as possible. The best time to take a probiotic is either first thing in the morning before eating breakfast or before going to sleep at night.

Probiotics are dietary supplements that consist of the beneficial bacteria that naturally occur in your intestinal tract. Environmental factors such as stress, processed food, chemicals in our water and food, pollution, radiation and certain medications can all have a negative impact on the diversity and number of good bacteria that live in your gut.

Probiotic dietary supplements aim to maintain and restore the natural diversity of your gut bacteria.

There are many probiotic supplements on the market, each with different recommended intake instructions. With so many different instructions, you may be wondering how to get the most out of your supplement.

So, when is the best time of day to take probiotics, and why does it matter?

Probiotics are some of the safest natural supplements available, and have very few contraindications. There are a few groups of people who we recommend exercise a degree of caution when they are considering supplementation with live cultures, an example of which is people who are immunosuppressed , and people with dark blood in their stools. Under these circumstances, it would be wise to seek the advice of a GP before considering probiotic supplementation. In fact if ever in doubt, always speak to your doctor about any health supplements. For more information see our contraindications FAQ.

With regards to medications and natural remedies, there are no known contraindications. The only point to take in to account here is if a supplement has antibacterial or anti-fungal properties. If it does, like garlic for example, then it is recommended that you take the probiotic at least a couple of hours either side of the other supplement, so as not to damage the bacteria. But with regards to safety, probiotics can be taken alongside all natural remedies without any problem.

Youve probably heard 100 times by now how important your gut health is for your overall well-beingand that the healthy bacteria that live in your digestive system play a huge role in keeping that gut health in tip-top shape.

After all, these probiotics help us digest food, destroy microorganisms that might trigger disease, and even produce vitamins. Our bodies naturally house both good and bad bacteria, but as long as the two are in balance, our immune system stays strong, which is crucial for our general health, explains Sarina Pasricha, M.D., M.S.C.R., a Harvard-trained, double-board certified gastroenterologist with the Delaware Center for Digestive Care in Newark, Delaware. In fact, probiotics have been shown to help us fight off everyday bugs, overcome irregularity in the bathroom, and manage digestive conditions.

Given their many benefits, its no wonder many of us have added probiotic supplements to our daily routines. Thing is, benefiting from a supplement isnt quite as simple as just remembering to take it at some point every day. Turns out, when we take our probiotic supplements actually has a pretty big impact on just how much theyre able to do for our digestive system.

Heres what top gut expertsand the latest sciencehave to say about when to take your probies.

Don’t Miss: What Should A Good Probiotic Contain

What Is The Best Prebiotic To Take

You can get some prebiotics from the foods you eat. But, to ensure that you get them every day, you really need to take a prebiotic powder or supplement. So, while I know that dandelion greens contain prebiotics, I am not eating them every day. A prebiotic powder is something I can add to my morning smoothie or overnight oats.

I have been using KarmaMD PreBio Complete which is a unique pre and probiotic supplement. And, it comes in a delicious banana flavor that makes it perfect for my morning breakfast routine. To boost my immune system, I take it with Total Immunity which is a cellular and respiratory health supplement that supports multi-system immune defense.

One of the reasons that I love KaraMD is that they offer a 90-day satisfaction guarantee. You cannot go wrong.

These products are both made in the USA from non-GMO ingredients. And, they are vegan and gluten-free. The prebiotic powder dissolves well in my smoothie and overnight oats and the banana taste is easy to use in a bunch of different ways. All it takes is a quick shake to dissolve it in milk.

So, here are a few healthy gut options you can try:

Align And Weight Loss

Align Probiotic Supplement, Capsules, 42 ct.

Align does not blatantly claim to be a fat burner. Two groups of good micro bacteria are found in the digestive system: firmicutes and bacteroidetes.

Bodyweight is dependent on which of these two groups of bacteria is more in a persons system.

If a person has more of the firmicutes, then such a person tends to be overweight, and if a person has more of the bacteroidetes, then such a person has an average weight.

With the balancing ability of probiotics, Align can help a user shed extra fat by creating a workable balance between the firmicutes and the bacteroidetes.

Should you trust it to lose weight? Not entirely. No particular supplement, no matter the reviews, works without proper exercise and dieting. So, dont put all your weight on one tiny capsule.

The Best Time To Take Probiotics

So… when should you pop your probiotic capsule? “Research shows that the best time to take probiotics is just before a meal or as you begin your meal,” says Lisa Richards, CNC, nutritionist and creator of The Candida diet. “This is the time when your stomach environment is at its least acidic, because your body has not yet begun to produce stomach acid in large quantities to digest your food. Taking your probiotics at this time will make their passage to your gut a little easier, and ensure you get the most from those beneficial bacteria.”

However, Richards says the when-to-take aspect of probiotics depends on what type you opt for. “If your probiotic is enteric-coated or uses delayed-release capsules, it is more likely to survive stomach acid and so the exact timing is less important,” she says. If you’re taking a live strain probiotic supplement, “ideally you want to take them 20 minutes after you eat, first thing in the morning or right before bedtime,” Greenfield says. “This allows more of the probiotics to get into the large intestines where they will have the most benefits. If you are taking a soil-based probiotic, you can take them with food for most impact.” Not sure what kind you have? Dr. Sonpal says brands put that info on the packaging.

A Plethora Of Probiotics Means You Need To Choose Wisely

As the good news on probiotics grows, so does their fan base and, in turn, the number of probiotic products on the market.

One way people are getting more of these healthy bacteria into their systems is through probiotic-rich foods, like kefir, tempeh, kimchi, kombucha, sauerkraut, and more commonly, yogurt.

Another popular source of probiotics is nutritional supplements. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health , probiotic use has surged in recent years and theyre now the third most commonly used dietary supplement, after vitamins and minerals.

Naturally, this would leave many wondering when is the best time of day to take probiotics?

Well, there is a lot to consider when answering this. The best time of day to take probiotics must consider strains, form and many other factors. Not all probiotic formulas are created equal. And the thing that sets a truly effective formula apart from the rest might surprise you.

For example, take a look at some of these

I was extremely miserable my stomach was so heavy I felt and looked pregnant. I was so bloated, uncomfortable and tired all the time.

Once I started taking align all that changed and I never felt better. I stand by this product and highly recommend this for anyone who is having problems with their digestive system.

Id been struggling with IBS for years and started trying different probiotics in hopes that one would work.

After a few, Im happy to report that this is the one that works for me! I noticed a difference within a few days.

No more bloating or gurgling sounds from my stomach. I only wish I had found this product sooner!

I really like Align but how it will work for you depends on your intestinal situation.

It was recommended to me by my gastroenterologist because I had a lot of flank pain and am categorized as irregular. He paired this with Metamucil/Citracel which didnt make much sense until I read the other reviews.

When I take it every other day or two, I do just fine and it keeps me regular without taking extra fiber.

Probiotics For Constipation: The Evidence

You might be hoping that using probiotics for constipation erases any semblance of the problem. Unfortunately, scientific data is mixed on whether probiotics help you poop.

Some research shows that probiotics for constipation can be incredibly helpful.

A study testing the effectiveness of probiotics for constipation found that patients consuming probiotics saw a 70% improvement in stool frequency and a 60% improvement in stool consistency! The sample size was rather small, however, at only thirty participants.

But other research shows that probiotics may be no better than placebo.

One studytested the effectiveness of probiotics for constipation symptoms in 75 people over 4 weeks. There was a control group who did not take probiotics and a group that consumed probiotics consistently.

After 4 weeks, nothing happened there were no improvements in stool output, symptoms, or quality of life in the group taking the probiotic. They concluded that probiotics for constipation were not productive in this case.

Because the research is so mixed, scientists assert that the use of probiotics for the treatment of constipation condition should be considered investigational, meaning its effectiveness is not completely confirmed .

Why is the research so contradictory? Well, it might be because studies examine different strains of probiotics.

Different probiotic strains have different effects so a probiotics productiveness may waver depending on what it is being used to treat.
