Best Probiotic For Sjogren’s Syndrome

Are You A Sensitive Psoriasis Patient

Juice feast Day16. Lupus and Sjogren’s Syndrome Arthritis Natural herbal Cure Experiment. Body Detox

For the sensitive patients, i.e. those who react quite strongly to any kind of dietary supplement treatment, for once a day you may like to try to take the probiotic before consuming any carbohydrate foods or drinks. Alternatively, frequently consume lactic acid fermented foods like yoghurt and/or sauerkraut, miso soup, tempeh, quark, etc. If you are taking any treatment for candida, it is important after finishing any anti-microbial therapy continue to take the probiotics for one to two months with breakfast and with your dinner .You can take probiotics and an antifungal product at the same time, there is no evidence that they counter each other. The last four to eight weeks of probiotic treatment just take a dose with breakfast.

Even after what you and most probably your health-care professional deem as successful therapy, candida spores and dormant microbes like bacteria and various parasites may remain in your body and re-emerge when we you chronically stressed, just like the herpes virus. As your immune system gets stronger, you will eventually get over the these infections. Therefore, repeat the probiotic treatment whenever candida or gut infection-related symptoms re-appear. Remember dont be in a hurry to stop the probiotics, most psoriasis patients do in my experience and this is one of the key ways to fail with treating chronic psoriasis successfully. It can take many, many months to rebuild your digestive system, so please be a patient patient!

Sjogrens Syndrome And The Microbiome

A reader asked about Sjögrens syndrome. They were very frustrated by the lack of treatments. The following is what I could find based on the assumption that it is Microbiome connected. Specifically, I am assuming the microbiome in the mouth, nasal cavity etc. is a significant factor for Sjögrens syndrome

In systemic autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and Sjögrens syndrome, the immune system is deranged to a chronic inflammatory state and autoantibodies are an important hallmark. Specific bacteria and/or a dysbiosis in the human microbiome can lead to local mucosal inflammation and increased intestinal permeability.

In this review article, we discuss links of the oral microbiota to a group of autoimmune diseases, i.e., Sjögrens syndrome , systemic lupus erythematosus , Crohns disease , and rheumatoid arthritis . We particularly focus on factors that affect the balance between the immune system and the composition of microbiota leading to dysbiosis, loss of tolerance and subsequent autoimmune disease progression and maintenance

Probiotics Are Not Condition Specific

You may have heard claims like:

Only X probiotic has been proven effective for Y symptom.

In some cases, this is a well-intentioned claim by those who are trying to stay congruent with the research. In other cases, this is just marketing i.e. cherry-picking studies to sell you something. In either case, the message is generally incorrect. Of course, there is no need to explain why cherry-picking studies is incorrect. But, why are those who are attempting to stay true to the research incorrect?

Well, these types of claims that only X probiotic has been shown effective for Y condition are reflective of a limited knowledge of probiotic research. Said simply, if you know of one study showing a probiotic can improve constipation, you would state only X probiotic has been shown effective for constipation. The whole time being unaware that other studies have found different probiotics can also improve constipation.

Heres the Proof

So, its clear that probiotics are not condition-specific and that different probiotics can work for the same symptoms or condition. This is why I find it frustrating seeing marketers try to sell you the special probiotic for a given symptom. It is misleading. This is also why we can simplify the process via Probiotic Triple Therapy. Remember this quote from earlier

The evolution of knowledge is toward simplicity, not complexity.

We have to think critically

Blood Pressure & Cholesterol

When it comes to blood pressure and cholesterol, we have five meta-analyses , so this is worth a look. The results are a bit mixed, however the majority of results do show benefits

Four meta-analyses found that probiotic supplements can improve overall cholesterol profiles. One of these studies also shows significant improvements to blood pressure. All together these four meta-analyses evaluated 68 clinical trials with 3885 patients.

Another meta-analysis found probiotics had a significant effect on reducing LDL Cholesterol. However, there was no effect on blood pressure or any other cholesterol readings. This meta analysis evaluated 9 clinical studies with 678 participants with pre-diabetes.

Another interesting study found that probiotics can lower homocysteine, which is an independent risk factor for heart disease. How did the probiotic lower homocysteine? The probiotic increased healthy bacteria levels in the gut, these bacterial changes lead to increased B vitamin production and this then lead to decreased homocysteine levels.

The effect size in these studies is usually small, but favorable. So, probiotics should not be viewed as the primary therapy for high cholesterol or blood pressure.

How Do Probiotics Work

Sjogren

Probiotics are actually a group of strains of beneficial bacteria that usually grow well in the digestive tract. They have been studied for their effect on several health issues including irritable bowel syndrome, antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus infections, and even inflammatory bowel diseases.

In addition to their beneficial effect, the most commonly found species within the group of probiotics is called Lactobacillus. There are also a few others that are less well known, however, these are the ones that tend to be recommended by medical professionals as useful for women.

For Muscle Sorenessaches And Pains

Muscle pain, joint pain and aches are a bodys worst nightmare. Even small aches and pains for a person with autoimmune conditions can signal much worse developments on the horizon soreness in one spot can lead to immobility elsewhere, and flare ups are always a concern. Because of this, much of what I do in life is to avoid pain, minimize it, or nip it in the bud so that I can continue to live my best life. These are some of the products that I use regularly to help me avoid and manage pain.

I get flare ups all the time, and physical activity always increases the odds of a bad flare up. When I work out, my muscles tighten up so much that the pain can prevent me from getting into a consistent schedule. Using a massage gun right after I work out helps reduce the risk of muscle pain and flare ups. Full disclosure: Muscle Hammer is owned by my brother, so of course its my favorite!

The Muscle Hammer helps to prevent lactic acid buildup so that I can work out again the next day. This has become especially important during the pandemic, as I used to rely on personal massages to keep autoimmune related inflammation at bay. This massage gun helps to fill that need while we all stay safe at home. It saves money in the long run and helps you feel good about taking care of yourself. The Muscle Hammer is also much quieter than many similar products on the market, meaning you can use it around other people whenever you need without worrying about disrupting anyone.

Treating Other Symptoms Related To Sjgrens Syndrome

People with Sjögrens syndrome may experience dryness in other areas, including the lips, the nose, the skin and the vagina.

  • For dry lips, petroleum jelly and lip balms can help.
  • Blocked nasal passages and a dry nose increase your need to breathe through the mouth, which can make your dry mouth worse. Saline nasal sprays can be helpful. Be sure to treat other causes of congestion, such as allergies and sinus infections, quickly.
  • Dry skin usually improves when you use skin lotion regularly and throughout the day, especially after baths or showers.
  • Some women experience vaginal dryness, especially after menopause. Using products made for vaginal dryness, such as vaginal moisturizers, estrogen cream, vitamin E oil, hyaluronic acid suppositories and vaginal lubricants can be useful. Also, applying adequate artificial lubrication to both partners can help prevent painful intercourse.

Saliva helps reduce the acidity of your stomach, so acid reflux can be common in people with Sjögrens syndrome. Normally, people can treat their symptoms the same way as those without Sjögrens syndrome, such as watching what they eat and using nonprescription medications.

Symptoms of Sjögren syndrome develop when salivary glands and lacrimal glands are damaged by the immune system .

Cells that line salivary glands and produce saliva, called epithelial cells, are major targets of the autoimmune attack. Epithelial cells in other organs such as the liver, kidneys, lungs, and thyroid are also frequently damaged by the immune system in Sjögren patients .

Sjögren syndrome is a multifactorial disease caused by interaction among genetic and environmental factors. Several viruses have been implicated in Sjögren syndrome, and multiple potential mechanisms of disease have been proposed .

Topical Nerve Growth Factor

Nerve growth factor is a signaling molecule that regulates the growth and maintenance of the nervous system and plays a role in wound healing . Nerve growth factor has been detected in several tissues outside of the nervous system as well as in human tears. Dry eye appears to increase the concentration of nerve growth factor in tears . Nerve growth factor eye drops have been shown to increase tear production and density of mucous-secreting cells in a dog model of dry eye . Other evidence from animal and human studies indicates that topical application of nerve growth factor may relieve dry eye caused by various conditions . Larger studies are needed to confirm the efficacy of topical nerve growth factor in treating dry eye.

How To Tell If Probiotics Are High

I like a bargain as much as anyone, but buying a probiotic supplement is something you dont want to skimp on. Warehouse stores are great to buy paper towels and grass-fed beef in bulk, but those mega-containers of probiotics are hardly the great deal they might seem.

Quality matters for any supplement, and that goes triple for probiotics. Many commercial brands lack the technology to identify specific strains and how much of that strain each dose contains. That could mean you get an ineffective or potentially harmful dose. Its a great sign if the company is using probiotic strains that have been used specifically in clinical trials at a dose similar to or the same as that used in the study. This is one of the only ways to guarantee a probiotics effectiveness.*

And even then, with probiotics, its all about survival. These delicate microorganisms must survive several obstaclesthe manufacturing process, packaging, shelf life, and the acid in your stomach environmentto reach your intestines, where they do their job.

To avoid those and other problems, I strongly recommend buying a professional brand from a reputable health care professional or another vendor who stands by their products and submits their products for multiple rounds of quality testing, from raw ingredients to finished product. Some of these brands have created advanced technology that preserves a probiotic supplements survival on the shelf and in your gut.

Best Sjgrens Syndrome Products My Dry Vagina

Monistat Nystatin cream on Amazon. I do use nystatin cream for vaginal yeast infections and sometimes just as a labia moisturizer if I feel like a yeast infection might be oncoming. I now prefer using the cream over the vaginal suppository because there is more relief with the cream due to dryness.

Coconut Oil- Virgin. I love coconut oil for many things! Use the whole coconut oil as it has better moisturizing properties. I cook with it and will use it as a body lotion, but my favorite use is for a vaginal moisturizer or lubricant. It is a wonderful product to use for comfortable sex. It is also cost-effective and all-natural. I really like Dr. Bronners for quality and fair trade practices but Trader Joes has a decent product as well .

Iron Vitamin B12 And Folic Acid

Sjögrens syndrome (dry syndrome) causes symptoms and ...

Iron and vitamin deficiencies frequently occur in individuals with primary Sjögren syndrome. In a study in Sjögren patients, over half of participants had an iron deficiency, and a significant portion of participants had vitamin B deficiencies. These nutrient deficiencies can affect the function of the salivary and lacrimal glands, as well as the immune system .

Vitamin B12 deficiency in Sjögren syndrome results primarily from malabsorption of this vitamin. This inability to absorb B12 is related to low stomach acid and/or gastritis, common manifestations of Sjögren syndrome .

Low blood levels of vitamin B12 and folate are associated with elevated plasma levels of homocysteine. High homocysteine levels promote neurodegeneration and increase risk of cardiovascular disease . Early detection of these nutrient deficiencies and repletion with appropriate oral supplementation may prevent potential serious complications and protect the overall health of people with Sjögren syndrome .

Bioschwartz Probiotic 40 Billion Cfu

BioSchwartz is known for their Advanced Strength probiotic with over 40 billion CFUs, coming from 4 different probiotic strains.

And while this is not as potent as the Physicians Choice probiotic with over 60 billion CFUs, its still recommended by many.

The 4 strains included in the BioSchwartz probiotic include:

  • Bifidobacterium lactis,
  • Lactobacillus plantarum,
  • Lactobacillus paracasei

Out of the above I really like Lactobacillus plantarum, as its known to provide relief from Crohns disease, IBS and other digestive conditions.

The recommended dosage according to the directions is 2 capsules per day, I usually prefer just one capsule per day, but this was ok too.

Overall, this is also a great choice, more info available here:

Should Every Woman Take Probiotics

There are many benefits to taking probiotics. Probiotics can increase the number of healthy bacteria in your gut and help you digest food more efficiently.

They also improve immune function, so they may even reduce your risk for developing certain types of cancer such as colon cancer and breast cancer.

However, there is no evidence that every woman should take probiotics because its important to find out what specific type of probiotic is best for you before starting a regimen.

For example, if you have an autoimmune disorder or a condition that causes chronic inflammation then a different type of probiotic will be recommended than someone who does not have any underlying health conditions or allergies.

So in short, yes it is definitely advisable for women to supplement their health with probiotics and ensure they maintain as healthy a lifestyle as possible.

Dry Eye Sign Analysis

All subjects underwent slit lamp microscopic examinations for evaluation of corneal staining using NEI scores and TBUT. Corneal staining was evaluated using Fluorescein® paper strips after placing one drop of sterile saline. NEI scores for evaluation of corneal staining assesses 5 areas of the cornea on a 03 scale with a total score generated by summation of the 5 section scores . TBUT, using the same Fluorescein® paper strips used for corneal staining evaluation, was measured three times and averaged in each eye. Basal and reflex tear secretion was measured in millimeters at 5 minutes using Schirmers strips without prior instillation of topical anesthesia.
