Our Experience With Purina Proplan Calming Care
For Miss Bennet, anxiety often looks like a withdrawal. This winter, she all but stopped eating and playing. Shes 12 years old, with some age-related health problems, so we whisked her to the vet after her lack of appetite spanned more than a couple of days. Probiotics Arent A Cure
Although there are many benefits of probiotics for dogs, they arent appropriate for every dog or every situation.
There are other conditions where probiotics might not be recommended, such as in dogs with a significantly compromised GI tract or those undergoing treatments like chemotherapy, in which case the decision to start probiotics should be made with the veterinarians advice. If your pet is not feeling well, you should always consult with your veterinarian.

Theres nothing that could keep Heart away from her best friend, Soul. After the two pups suddenly found themselves alone on the side of the highway, abandoned by their family, they stayed by each others side for warmth and safety. When no one was there to love and care for them, they became a source of love and comfort for each other.
That’s why, when Soul was injured in an accident one day, Heart refused to leave his side even after help arrived.
She was barking at people and being protective, Donna Lochmann, Stray Rescue of St. Louis chief lifesaving officer, told The Dodo. She wasnt being aggressive, but she was letting people know that that was her friend, he was hurt and she was keeping an eye on him.
Lochmann happened to come across the accident on her way to the shelter, and she immediately jumped in to help.
First, I got Heart on a leash, put her in the front seat and secured her, Lochmann said.
The rescuer then grabbed a blanket and gently placed Soul on top. She carried the injured pup to her Jeep and carefully loaded him into the back.
Even though she was strapped in the front, Heart wouldnt take her eyes off Soul the entire time they were in the car.
And when they got to the shelter, she remained her best friends faithful lookout.
She watched and would kind of keep an eye on the vet, Lochmann said.
The shelter staff brought Heart back into the room with Soul to spend their final moments together.

According to Dr. Greenstein, the COVID-19 pandemic has been beneficial to the study of pet anxiety. While efforts to manage pet anxiety arent new, increased attention has led to innovation in this area, particularly as pet parents are leaving their pets at home alone again.
Dr. Greenstein says that calming dog treats like supplements have shown particular promise, especially when used along with behavior modification through training. Returning to the show kennel where his litter was whelped in January 2016 after living as a house dog for two and a half years was stressful for a Flat-Coated Retriever named Cole. Can Dogs Have Human Probiotics
Just because a probiotic is safe and effective for humans doesnt mean its also safe and effective for dogs.
The World Health Organization has specific guidelines on probiotics for humans and we follow them for pets as well. According to these guidelines, The most important thing, first and foremost, is to have demonstrated safety, says Dr. Cross.
Once safety is established, the bacteria must also demonstrate a beneficial effect in the animal.
Although yogurts free from sugar and artificial sweeteners like xylitol arent toxic to dogs, Dr. Cross doesnt recommend them. Safety and efficacy have not been shown for yogurt products in dogs and cats. More importantly, yogurt contains other ingredients, like dairy, and dogs can be intolerant to that level of dairy.
With the exception of a few products out there, most yogurts do not guarantee live bacteria numbers. Its important to use a product that has in some way shown you that it has an efficacious number of probiotic bacteria, that they also remain alive on the shelf and can survive to the lower gastrointestinal tract where they have the most impact.
