Probiotics Containing Bifidobacterium Infantis 35624

Nhs Recommends Probiotics For Ibs

Alimentary Health – B. Infantis 35624 Mechanism of Action

The NHS includes the use of probiotics as part of tips recommended to help relieve IBS symptoms23.

This is a big milestone in the world of probiotics because, although probiotics are routinely prescribed in many European hospitals, it wasnt always part of the NHS recommendations. The NICE guidelines , which provides evidence-based guidelines/framework that many medical and health care professionals work within, now recommends that probiotics can be used for at least 4 weeks for managing IBS related symptoms24.

The NHS website states that: “Probiotics may help reduce bloating and flatulence in some people with IBS.”

The inclusion of probiotics for IBS relief was due to the result of a systematic review by Moayyedi et al., published in 2010, which concluded that probiotics were effective in the management of IBS25.

Fecal Excretion Of B Infantis 35624

Prior to treatment, B. infantis 35624 was detected by qPCR in feces of all three study groups . After four and eight weeks of treatment, fecal levels of B. infantis 35624 from IBS subjects who received the probiotic rose significantly over those from subjects that received placebo . In subjects with IBS and healthy controls who received the active supplement, fecal levels of the probiotic strain approached a plateau in the range of 2 to 2.5 log10 ng DNA/g stool during the treatment phase. Excretion of the probiotic strain declined in both these groups in the two-week follow-up period after treatment termination, although not to baseline levels. Comparable results were obtained when two other B. infantis 35624specific probes were employed in post-hoc qPCR analyses of microbial DNA in frozen fecal samples, which served to validate the results .

Figure 2. Mean log10 ng microbial DNA per g fecal sample by qPCR analysis of B. infantis 35624 DNA using the EPS-1 primer probe just prior to treatment , after weeks 4 and 8 of treatment and at two weeks post-treatment. P values compare subjects with IBS who received either the probiotic supplement or placebo.

Align Probiotic And Ibs

Align probiotic has helped many people with IBS combat the constipation, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, urgency, gas and bloating that Irritable Bowel Syndrome produces.

Bet those symptoms sound familiar to some of you!

The once-a-day capsule delivers 1 billion live bacteria.

Remember, not all probiotics work in the intestinal tract but the strain in Align does.

Align Probiotic Supplement contains Bifidobacterium infantis 35624 which is well researched and has been in a number of trials.

It also contains milk and soy but is lactose free.

An Irish trial involved 77 people with IBS. They were divided into 3 groups one group received the Bifidobacterium infantis 35624 within a malted milk drink, the second group received a different probiotic in their drink and the third group received the plain malted milk drink with nothing added.

The group that drank the milk containing Bifidobacterium infantis 35624 had significantly less abdominal pain and discomfort, less bloating and distention of the intestines, and improved bowel movement function.1

The above trial used the bacteria at a slightly higher quantity than that found in Align probiotic but another trial2 was successful on a dosage of 1 hundred million which is slightly LESS than found in Align so it appears as if the amount of live probiotic bacteria in 1 capsule is an effective amount for most people.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus Sdc 2012

A small single-centre study of forty patients with IBS randomised to L. acidophilus SDC 2012 and 2013 or placebo has shown benefit over placebo. Using any reduction in abdominal pain scores as a primary end-point when comparing L. acidophilus to placebo a reduction in pain of 23·8% v. 0·2% was reported. However, the study did not use a global symptom-relief score as an end point, and using any reduction in pain as a responder is questionable. It is interesting that there appeared to be no appreciable placebo effect in the trial , in contrast to the majority of trials in IBS.

What Are Some Reviews Of Align

As of January, 2019, on the aligngi.com website, the regular capsules have a 4.36 out of 5 rating, the extra-strength have a 4.73 out of 5 rating, the immune blend has 4.55 out of 5 rating, the adult chewables have a 5 out of 5 rating, the junior chewables have a 4.8 out of 5 rating and the prebiotic+probiotic gummies have a 4.5 out of 5 rating. Some of these reviewers received incentives for their reviews. Therefore, I looked to other retailers for verified-purchase reviews.

At Vitacost, there were 4.7 out of 5 stars for the regular capsules, with this recent review, but the other reviews were several years old:

I was skeptical for a long time about probiotics but finally decided to try. After years of various digestive issues and experience with different medications, I have to say this one made the nice list. I have experienced relief in several areas due to Align. Day 2 and 3 felt gurgly and unsettled, but after that smooth sailing. Just be sure to take every day around same time, so you dont have to start the intro process all over.”

At Amazon.com, there were different reviews for the different package sizes of the regular-strength, but all of them averaged over 4.4 out of 5 stars, with recent verified purchases. Some positive and negative reviews were:

i have Ibs , only probio that has help me. . been on it for 5 months bought it first at walmart drug dept, was recommended to me.by drugest. I started buying it on Amazon as the price is less. March 13, 2018

What Lies Ahead For Probiotics In Digestive Diseases

Inspired investigators and technical advances in genomics are facilitating in-depth scientific investigation of the human microbiome and the functional capacities of probiotics. These advances are sure to bring paradigmatic changes to our fundamental understanding of how microbiota influence health and how they can be manipulated to combat disease and improve quality of life. Future indications and therapeutic directions for probiotics may include conditions as diverse as mood disorders, obesity, autism and diabetes. Recent clinical trials and translational studies suggest that lactobacillus probiotics may offer epithelial cytoprotection to limit symptoms of radiation enteritis, a dose limiting side effect for patients receiving abdominal radiotherapy for malignancy., , Promise is held for confirmative testing of helminth-based therapy and turbo-probiotics designed to secrete human cytokines. Gene based bacterial profiling studies from disease affected humans have identified what may be novel probiotics such as Faecalibacterium prausnitizii and Clostridium species IV and XIVa. Finally, the identification, purification and repackaging of probiotic-derived soluble factors possessing proven capacity to modify biologic function may allow us to harness the power of probiotics while averting the potential risks associated with live bacteria. Some suggest that as these advances progress to the clinic we will shift from the term probiotic into the new world of pharmabiotics.

Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth

One clear difference between lactobacillus and bifidobacteria is that bifidobacteria reside mainly in the colon while lactobacillus strains are also found in the small intestine.

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is a condition where the numbers of normal or pathogenic bacteria increase to harmful levels in the small bowel. SIBO has been shown to cause harm both to the structure and function of the small bowel.

While lactobacillus is one of the good guys, and normally a beneficial bacteria, it can be part of a dysbiotic overgrowth in the small bowel, which causes adverse health effects. For this reason, lactobacillus probiotics may not be suitable in the presence of SIBO.

Which Probiotics Are Best For Ibs

Not sure which probiotic is best for your form of IBS? If you are unsure which type of IBS you have and what probiotic would be best for you, then it would be a good idea to opt for a high-quality daily product containing probiotics supported with clinical trials. My personal favourite strain for IBS is Bifidobacterium lactis HN019 which has been shown to help with:

  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Loose stools
  • Bowel regularity

As you can see the clinical trial shows this is a great all-rounder and would be helpful to support all types of IBS, so ideally you would choose a daily product that has Bifidobacterium lactis HN019 in it.

Healthcare professionals can learn more about Bifidobacterium lactis HN019 on the Probiotics Database.

So, to summarise, the probiotic strains you may wish to consider:

  • For IBS-D & post-infectious IBS – Saccharomyces boulardii
  • For IBS-C – Bifidobacterium lactis BB-12®
  • For IBS-A – Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM®
  • For IBS-U – Bifidobacterium lactis HN019

Please note: if you are struggling with IBS, we advise you to seek advice and assistance from your healthcare practitioner in all instances.

10 Best Probiotics for SIBO [An Evidence Based Review]

The microbiome plays an essential role in our immunity. We are born with a capital that is directly linked to the one of our mother, as our first exposure to external pathogens is in the womb, and colonization of the baby microbiome happens at birth soon as the water bag breaks, and natural delivery allows the baby to come in contact with the mothers microbiome to seed its own. Children born through c-section may lack exposure to some beneficial microbiota strains which are essential support for digestive health and building strong immunity.

The Bifidobacterium infantis strain of bacteria is one of them. Like the Bifidobacterium Longum, it is a probiotic acquired naturally during childbirth and then with breastfeeding . This would explain the greater resistance to infection in breastfed children.

From the same family as Longum, its high nicotinic and folic acid content makes it specific. A theory called hygiene hypothesis demonstrates that the increase, in many developed countries, of atopic allergic diseases is due to the absence of an early exposure to Bifidobacterium Infantis.

In addition, Bifidobacterium Infantis is particularly recommended for reducing symptoms of IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome in women. According to a study sponsored by the P& G Health Sciences Institute and published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, this strain is effective in relieving bloating, bowel problems and pain .

Bifidobacterium Infantis Is A Highly Specialized Microbe That Resides In The Gut Microbiome

Unlike most other bacteria in the gut microbiome, Bifidobacterium infantis is an inherited microbe, often being passed down from mother to child during child birth.

Once it takes up residence in the gut microbiome, Bifidobacterium infantis flourishes and helps to cultivate an environment where other beneficial bacteria can grow.

    • Bifidobacterium infantis has been shown to strengthen the gut barrier, and increase butyrate production in certain contexts
    • Currently, the most effective way to increase Bifidobacterium infantis levels is through the use of probiotics

Here we explore the many benefits of Bifidobacterium infantis and how it is being used as a probiotic.

    What is Bifidobacterium infantis?

Bifidobacterium infantis is a lactic-acid-producing gut bacteria that provides many benefits to newborn infants as well as adults.

What are the benefits of Bifidobacterium infantis?

    Bifidobacterium infantis2:

    • Cooperates with other gut-microbiome bacteria to harvest energy from non-digestible nutrients, ultimately leading to the creation of butyrate
    • Occupies space in the gut microbiome that potentially harmful microbes would otherwise fill

It is noteworthy that much of what is known about the benefits of Bifidobacterium infantis comes from studies that were done in infants2.

While it is likely that these benefits extend to adults as welland there is some evidence to support thisthe magnitude of these benefits may differ as we get older.

    Probiotic Supplement And Placebo Preparation

    Align Probiotic Review

The probiotic supplement was prepared by mixing a freeze-dried preparation of B. infantis 35624 with the excipient formulation under controlled humidity. The ratio of freeze-dried B. infantis 35624 to excipient was sufficient to produce a capsule product with a mean count of 1 × 109 cfu per capsule . The placebo capsules were prepared under the same conditions but with the exclusion of the freeze-dried of B. infantis 35624. Both capsule formulations were evaluated in the previously described capsule disintegration test14 to ensure that the contents within the capsule would be released appropriately within the GI tract. Additionally, concurrent stability testing was performed to assure that the B. infantis 35624 was viable at the target concentration throughout the in-life study period.
